Amelia here with your weekly Dóchas blog post.
The past couple of years have been a whirlwind for me. I’ve grown up a lot and have adjusted to many changes along the way. Over the years I’ve collected a lot of mental health resources. I am a resourceful person and love finding new ways to support the mental health of me and my clients.
I’ve learned to look for tools and information from others who’ve lived through the experiences that I’m still navigating myself. Life is hard, there’s no getting around that, but we don’t have to figure it all out alone. Learning from others’ experiences can make life transitions feel a little more manageable.
So let’s dive into my Most Valuable Resources (MVR)! Watch my video or read on for more details:
The Let Them Theory
The first resource is hands down the Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. I have sent this 45-minute podcast to countless clients, and it is so heartening to see clients come in with life-changing realizations after listening. Here is the link if you are ready to learn how to take your power back. The Let Them Theory has been a game changer for my personal life: I am more compassionate with others and myself, I am less stressed out, and I am able to refocus my energy to what I can control AND what I actually care about. I now have a simple and effective mantra to redirect my energy and ultimately take back my peace.
Mel Robbins also published The Let Them Book, which has completely changed my outlook on adult friendships and stopping ineffective behaviours that are no longer serving me.

The Conscious Bride
I have talked about this book in my previous blog post about getting married. I can’t believe that blog post was released over a year ago now. I am now married, but the Conscious Bride has still been a huge resource to walk me through from getting engaged to the first year of marriage. I have bookmarks upon bookmarks for each step of the way. It was especially helpful on my honeymoon to explain the turbulent emotions I was feeling, and by explaining a new way of viewing marriage. What greatly stuck out to me was the notion that a marriage/relationship is not to find someone to fix you or fill in your blanks. A marriage is meant to be a safe space to help each individual person be the best version of themselves and create a beautiful life together. Basically, my husband helps me be the best version of myself I can be, and it is incredibly beautiful to see my own growth and support him in his.
Generation Dread
This is another callback resource to a previous blog post, but as wildfires continue to ravage Canada every summer and my weekly outdoor soccer continues to be impacted by air quality, it is a resource I am falling back on. Generation Dread has been beneficial not only for reframing my daily outlook on life but to help the many clients I see who are suffering from Climate Anxiety, particularly the younger generation. Another helpful resource has been following Instagram accounts that focus on positivity instead of the regular fear-inducing news stories.
Here are some of my favourite Instagram accounts:
Also, we hope we can be that resource for you on the @dochaspsych Instagram!
Spruce Grove Acupuncture
I rarely meditate. I love yoga, mindfulness, napping, and all of the self-care things, but meditation is one I don’t vibe with. However, in my monthly acupuncture appointment with Constantine at Spruce Grove Acupuncture (right down the hall from Dóchas in Spruce Grove!) I am able to rest and get into a meditative state in their soothing and calming environment, and as Constantine says, for the duration of my appointment, I am on a beach.
